How to Move WordPress to New Host with No Downtime [Easy Way]

move-wordpress_blog-to-new-hostThe days are long gone when moving WordPress site from one host to another  is considered to be a tedious task and if you decided to outsource it then you need to spend more than 10 bucks.
But now we can  transfer a WordPress site with zero downtime in less than 5 minutes.
Yeah.. you read that right.
And the best thing is you don’t need to worry about basic things like database backup and FTP.

This process involves the following three steps

  • Move your files to new web host
  • Backup & Import your blog’s Database to new web host
  • Change database details in wp-config.php file
  • Point the domain to new web host
Transfer our files
The first thing we need do is transfer our files to new web hosting providers and to do this task all you need to know is FTP details of your current and new web hosting providers
  1. Goto www.mover.io and create an account there
  2. Click on ”Select Source ” on the left side and then enter your old web hosting FTP details
  3. Click on ”Select Destination ” on the right side and then enter your new web hosting FTP details
  4. Then click on the ”Transfer Now ” button. You will get an email notification from them once your files are moved to your new web host Depending on the size of your blog it will take few minutes to an hour

 

Backup our blog’s Database We have almost completed 75 percent of task and the next thing we have to do is to move out blogs database to new web host and you have to be little bit careful since this step is very important 🙂
  1. Login to your old cPanel
  2. Choose Backups option
  3. and then download your blog’s database

Update your DNS Settings
The next thing you have to do is point your domain to your new web hosting’s name server. Most probably the name servers will be ns1.hostname.com  & ns2.hostname.com Just refer the welcome e-mail from your new web host more details.
  1. Login to your domain’s control panel
  2. Click on the domain which you want to change
  3. there you will see an option like name server and click on it
  4. Then the next thing you have to do point it to your new web hosting name sever
It’s will usually take less than 5 minutes for DNS propagation

Important Blog’s DB

Once you domain is pointed to your new web hosting providers all you have to do is import your blog’s database to your new web host

  1. Login to your cPanel
  2. Create a new database and a user to access it using MySQL Databases option
  3. Grand full permission for that user to access the database
  4. Now go back to your cPanel and then click on the phpMyAdmin option
  5. Then click on your blog’s database on left panel
  6. Using the import option in your phpMyAdmin import your blog’s database

Change database details in wp-config.phpWe have almost moved our blog to new web hosting and the last step we have to do is change the database details in the wp-config.php file which contains the details about your blog’s Database details
  1.  Go to your WordPress root directory using  File Manager in your cPanel
  2. Open the file wp-config.php which will be in the public-html
  3. change the database name, username, password in it.
